Brief Description:  

This project provided the hospital with six upgraded operating theatres, a new recovery ward and a new specialist theatre for state of the art image guided procedures. It also allowed a significant expansion to pathology services, including a new Kiestra automated lab.

Working under a traditional procurement arrangement, W&A were employed by the Trust to develop tender and construction documentation for construction work to be undertaken under a JCT contact arrangement.  This was a multi-phased project, with a key requirement being a continuous delivery of existing clinical services during the construction period. This required careful planning and on-going communication between the Design Team, Client and Contractor.

This scheme demonstrates our ability to plan and design work to be undertaken in areas of difficult access, overcome difficult ground conditions and provide a design solution supporting the existing structure in addition to the new works. This facilitated alterations and provided structural solutions to enable support over areas where the existing building roof was weak.
